Visceral Manipulation

Treating Back Pain using Visceral Manipulation

Visceral Manipulation works with the structure and functional imbalances within the body. It evaluates and treats the dynamics of motion and suspension in relation to organs, membranes, fascia and ligaments. By evaluating the relationship of the organs to the spinal column you can assist with improving posture, decreasing pain and increasing range of motion. This course will focus on the digestive system and how restrictions in the viscera can contribute to back pain and poor posture.

Visceral manipulation has its roots in many aspects of manual therapies. This introductory course is based on American and European osteopathic visceral work. The focus will be on anatomy, theory and palpation. You will learn hands on techniques that you can immediately take into your practice. Please wear loose comfortable clothing suitable for easy access to the abdominal area.

Class objectives:

· Understand the history and theory of visceral manipulation

· Understand indication and contraindication in using visceral manipulation

· Enhance palpation skills

· Locate and isolate individual organs and their attachments

· Perform a general evaluation

· Demonstrate appropriate techniques to remove restrictions in the viscera covered
